Morphik is an arts-focused design company founded with the vision that everyone
should have the opportunity to experience and own art.
In concept, design and function, our art inspired goods are meant to provide personal
and long-lasting value. Designed as an art-to-wear accessory piece, our cuffs and
bracelets can also be hung on the wall just like a favorite painting or photograph.
By owning a Morphik product, people have the chance to think about art on a more
intimate level. By wearing a Mophik product, people are able to express themselves
through art, sharing with others their favorite artists and artworks.
A guiding principal at Morphik is to make contemporary artists more accessible to
a larger and more diverse audience. For this reason, support of the artist community
is very important. Our artist network spans the globe including Japan, China, the
United States, Brazil, Germany, and France. Each artist has his or her individual
style. Working in genres such as painting, graffiti and photography, each artist
creates an exciting and fresh visual language representing the diverse trends happening
in contemporary art practice today.
Morphik works to generate sponsorship of arts organizations that bring awareness
to the benefits and vitality the arts have to offer. By donating to the arts, we
aim to build creative and supportive partnerships worldwide.
Christopher O'Byrne
Christopher O'Byrne is the Founder and Managing Director of art-to-wear accessories
line, Morphik. Establishing the brand with a vision to build relationships within
the artist community, Christopher is committed to showcasing the work of talented
artists in a whole new way; allowing for greater visibility, accessibility and enjoyment.
Christopher owes his interest in invention and design along with his entrepreneurial
spirit to his father. An architecture enthusiast, his father built the first four
houses in which the family lived. While growing up Christopher helped his father
with special projects and became fascinated with his dad's innovations and clever
approach to problem-solving.
It was in his twenties when this intrigue reemerged under a fresh creative light.
His then girlfriend (now wife), was an art admirer and would bring Christopher along
on her visits to galleries. He encountered Pop Surrealism at this time. Always a
little intimidated by art, he found the genre to be accessible, and very relatable
to his own experiences and interests. He was hooked.
A few days before his wife's birthday in 2006, Christopher had her gift, a limited
edition print by a young rising artist delivered to his office. Almost immediately,
he was engaged in conversation with colleagues about art as a medium, and the artists
that they most appreciated. Had the piece been delivered straight home, it would
have been seen by only close friends and family, and these conversations would never
have occurred.
Subsequently, Christopher began thinking of other ways that would allow people to
collect experience and exhibit art. He became fully immersed in the creative process
of finding a solution that would broaden art's accessibility. He viewed the
main problem with most design products that incorporated art like t-shirts, shoes
and watches to be that there was no clear separation between the product's function
and the artwork itself. Christopher saw a real opportunity to create something that
would have a multi-function. Designed to be worn as an accessory piece, Mophik products
can also be hung on the wall like a painting or photograph.
I always wanted to create a product that could have a broad impact on contemporary
culture. I believe Morphik pieces allot opportunity to connect more people with
art. The brand's unique aspects of design and function encourage individuals
to collect and learn about art on their own terms without worrying about cost or
lack of prior knowledge.
From these ideas, Christopher engendered a line of designer wristbands featuring
authentic images of interchangeable artworks with categories ranging from painting
to photography to graffiti and street art. He has spent years cultivating Morphik's
global artist network featuring talent from Japan, China, the United States, France,
Germany, Brazil and beyond. Working closely with the individual artists, he is committed
to fully preserving the authenticity of the original artworks. Bringing the initiative
full circle, Christopher donates a percentage of Morphik profits to art organizations
selected by the artists themselves.
Christopher lives in Irvine, California with his wife and two sons.
